Eventually joining a partisan group and learning how to become a demolition expert The reader learns of his love for a nurse and the tragic events that led to their parting. Isaacfoster Isaac did survive the war and ultimately found himself living in the United States His experiences during the war were shared with the author some thirty years ago and form the basis for this tale In the author s note at the end of the book the reader can see a picture of Isaac and also a picture of the partisan group that he served with It takes a very special person to survive all the trauma which Isaac faced during the war years. Isaacliou ptt My thanks go to Robert Karmon for putting Isaac s story to paper and sharing it with the world It is a book that needs to be read so that new generations can learn from the mistakes of the past The author told the story in a way that held my attention and kept me reading I would have loved a map so I could have understood a little better where this all took place.

The book was a quick read that explores hatred and love through the eyes of a boy who escapes the Nazis by living in the woods Sadly many survived this way This is truly a story everyone should be reading It addresses so many themes we are seeing today Tomorrow can be guided by our history if we listen to the warning signs of dangerous paths 9780912887562 I ve got a soft spot for Holocaust stories of survival They remind me how horrible humans can be to one another and how awful racism and prejudice can get when promoted We should never let that chapter of humanity die we should teach our children what happened and why we should never forget so that we never repeat. Isaac bruce That being said Isaac inspired by a true story is the story of a boy who escapes the horror of the Massacre at Sosenki for those of you who don t know that s when Jews from Rovno were rounded up like cattle marched into the forest told they were being taken somewhere safe and then shot to death and buried in a mass grave Yes that really happened I m not making it up 23000 Jews were murdered. Isaac and andrea But Isaac manages to escape and begins his story of survival in the wilderness all the while hiding worrying nearly starving to death meeting thieves and bandits and using his wit to make it through all that he encounters. Isaac bruce While I enjoyed Isaac I didn t feel pulled into the story While the story had all the pulls of a great story witty protagonist twists and turns and plenty of gray area characters it reads like a nonfiction book it s very textbooky in some places I would have liked raw narration I suppose rather than the stage direction type narration It was very this happened this happened he felt this It did a great job of telling me about his emotion but handing his emotions to me so that I could feel them It could have also used a round of editing Like I m one to talk right For a week no one else visited them for a week It didn t matter to them were the borders were Overall I gave Isaac a 3 out of 5 because while the story itself was amazing the writing just didn t pull me in I didn t have that feverish desire to get back to the book Yet anyone who s into the history of the Holocaust or that time period would surely love this book I ve got a friend who is and I m making sure he knows about it 9780912887562 Isaac is loosely based on a true story In the author s note following the story Robert Karmon talks about meeting the real Isaac listening to his stories and seeing the pictures Isaac chose to share In the final lines he says it has always been the memory of Isaac s indomitable spirit that guided and inspired me over these years to finally create a world that could not have existed without him This is one of the biggest lessons from the novel that every individual plays an important role in shaping the world around them and indirectly the entire world whether their impact is positive or negative and regardless of how small they think their actions are. Isaacia murr The novel begins with Isaac s family being rounded up for execution along with all Jews in their small town We get a glimpse of what Isaac s life may have been like before this event but this night is a turning point which determines the direction of the rest of his life and therefore the portrayal of Isaac s before life is minimal It s as if the life Isaac led prior to this night belonged to some other person another Isaac in another reality Following this horrific introduction Isaac finds himself to be the only survivor and runs away from his hometown with no direction or supplies The novel chronicles his journey across Europe for the next few years as well as his mental journey from adolescence to maturity. Isaac hayes Extended review posted on my blog 9780912887562 This is a brave and moving piece of work The final pages in particular brought me to tears I think Isaac is an important novel that records Isaac s indomitable spirit So ultimately the book is transcending and in a sense therapeutic because Isaac s tenacity courage and integrity are examples to us all. Isaac pfeffer While I was reading Isaac I found myself aware in a way that I haven t been for a long time of how ghastly and harrowing the life that the book depicts must have been what it must have felt like The losses the instability the lack of food warmth shelter the fear the insanity of war the violence and horror that man visits upon his fellow man The book brought me face to face with this vortex of human suffering and made me perceive what war time life must have been like how it must have felt and how it must have been an awful bleak void I began to realise how fortunate I am and I began to appreciate my life and to be aware of the things that we all too often take for granted This is one of the most important services that I think fiction can offer that of imaginative empathy and the faculty of being able to live in someone else s shoes this book does that in an exemplary fashion I think. Isaak kinder Certain lines impressed me with their stark beauty A slight wind sighed through the branches of the sunlit trees In that moment bathed in the patchwork radiance of the forest And this part was very striking He looked out at the open space The moon spread an unnatural luster over the clearing Nothing seemed real I found the evocation of nature in the novel to be very assured and even at times magical It is indeed a powerful novel with many resonances and a universal trajectory Baret Magarian 9780912887562 MY REVIEW OF ISAAC by Robert Karmon Isaac by Robert Karmon is based on a true story of a young man as he grows into manhood at a terrible time in history The genres of this story are Historical Fiction and Fiction This is based on the life of Isaac Gochman The timeline of the story is from 1941 during World War 11 and after the war The story starts in Rovno Poland and is mostly in the European forests and not far from Russia This is a story written about the time during the Holocaust. Isaac jaenke The character are complex and complicated and trying to survive in a war Robert Karmon weaves his story around a 16 year old Isaac as he is coming of age Unfortunately the Germans invade Rovno and tell the Jewish people they have to leave with them for their safety The Germans walk the Jewish people to trenches two miles away and start shooting them Isaac is witness to the bravery of some people and unfortunately the deaths of his whole family and community Isaac is shot but survives. Book of virtues isaac The author describes his dangerous and treacherous journey and the unusual cast of characters he meets in his attempts to survive To keep his Jewish identity secret he becomes Sergei He joins different groups fighting for survival Isaac also discovers his first love. Isaacar The author discusses the devastation and loss of a tragic war He also talks about friendship loyalty hope and love I would recommend this novel to those readers that are drawn to this period in history I received an ARC of this novel for my honest review 9780912887562 I recently saw that the publisher was looking for reviewers for this book and as I have a strong interest in World War 2 history I requested a copy in exchange for providing an honest review I received a PDF version of it shortly after hearing of the recent riots in Charlottesburg and after seeing videos of the events which took place there That experience definitely impacted my initial reactions to this story Although the author has presented this book as a novel it is a novel based on the very true real life experiences of Isaac Gochman a 16 year old Jewish boy from the town of Rovno in what was then a part of Poland now part of Ukraine. Isaac paredes In the first chapter as war reaches his hometown the reader sees Isaac watching and waiting with his family to see what will happen and how their lives will be affected Isaac and his family hear of people being relocated but initially just stay in their home trying to be invisible When their turn arrives they pack up their allotted 6 kg of belongings and head off on a march to what they expect will be relocation perhaps in some type of work camp This is not what happens and as I read and understood what the fate of Isaac and his family was to be I was sickened The author s description of the events which occurred was vivid and I had to put the book down for the day This seemed all to timely a reminder of what can happen when men and women choose to hate individuals of another race or religion. Ebook icsi Isaac however was a survivor and this book tells the tell of how he survived for months in the woods on his own but for much of the time Isaac didn t really know where he was either There are descriptions in this story that will bother some but they are an important part of the truth of what took place I highly recommend this book for anyone with an interest in the Holocaust partisans World War 2 and even for those in high school who need to understand the past to improve the present 9780912887562
